Some thoughts on the official 13.1 plasma iso:
- no sound from speakers on my Lenovo laptop, only after wake-up from sleep
- it lands to X11, but logging out, from gdm I didn't find the way to log back into wayland. Using SDDM on the iso too makes it possible (there are rosa isos with sddm). If I want to try it, I have to log out, change to console, and run startplasma-wayland from there. This way is useless for a normal user to test the plasma iso on wayland.
- on X11 touchpad tap to click is not activated by default, it has to be manually activated in settings.
The rest are present on the iso, but affects the installation too:
- rosa icon theme is messy. I cannot define a general problem, because there are multiple problems.
Here are some which I was confronting with
1. problem with sound icons (speakers and microphone volume ones, on the OSD and panel too)
2. not in correct order named - battery discharging, charging ones
3. missing icons - some are there in light and not there in dark one or vice-versa
4. not used icons - they are there in both of them, but not correct color used (for example for clipit the icons exists, both types, but not used)
5. inconsistent look of icons on the same pixel size or between the different pixel sizes (volume icons, or usb stick icons - even showing three different types - see panel icon and applet icons).
The problem is visible for me especially when the panels are dark and windows are light. If a general only darkmode or only lightmode is used, the problem is not so visible.
From my point of view the package needs to be very deeply rechecked, not just a few icons corrected, and also seen, why existing icons are not used (I had to change existing icons with opposite color ones to be correct for me - for example for clipit)
I couldn't make screenshots of all problems encountered, because it would take a half a day to find and correct again the problems which affects me.
- keyboard layout problems:
It looks like from the whole system is missing the basic, clean US English layout and the UK is used.
From the hungarian and romanian (from all the variants) missing characters and replaced with those from UK English ones (this is not only on my newly spoiled installation, but on the iso is the same)
I put screenshot in a folder, because there are more than 5 images − https://mega.nz/folder/xdwmVTZQ#dKqAQrLfH9nAQrUITpGp0g
So from my point of view, the 13.1 has nothing relevant changed from 13.0. Just some updated packages, without real changes and solutions for me (excepting the updated kernel for my microphones to work). Even worst, it spoiled, fortunately restorable on the most part my system and has unusable keyboard layouts now. It is worst than on 13.0, when I installed it in august and updated the whole system at once. It was no issue. So 13.1 is more unstable that 13.0 was in august-october interval - which seemed very stable for me.
Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
Re: Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
Also forget to mention, that I find useful to be installed on Rosa Plasma6 by default the integration package for plasma5-qt5 applications and included or created a separate package with thumbnailers, because it was difficult for me to find how integration was achieved on other distros but on Rosa qt apps looks in a basic way and do not use the filepicker. Also had to extract from plasma5 packages and copy separately thumbnailer files - which with an update might be again spoiled. But have not found the thumbnailer for folders (the one that creates a preview of the content on top of the folder image). Maybe it is there, but I do not know what to search for.
Also I realized, after completing the integration, that dnfdragora uses it too. So a basic program of Rosa would use it too.
I use oxygen theme, but for integration in the main there is only the plasma5 breeze theme and the oxygen5 in contrib conflicts with oxygen6 from main, so I had to manually copy files from it, to have a complete oxygen theme on my installation for plasma5-6 and qt5-6 apps.

Re: Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
After finding that Rosa has a unique keyboard layout setting, enabling by default the extra typographic characters, this creates big changes in layouts on 3rd and 4th levels, overwriting the layout's initial settings, resulting in unusable layouts, I consider that for general type of users this can create big problems. So it would be better to disable it, to not be enabled by default.

I fully support you.erfan писал(а): 07 дек 2025, 19:50 After finding that Rosa has a unique keyboard layout setting, enabling by default the extra typographic characters, this creates big changes in layouts on 3rd and 4th levels, overwriting the layout's initial settings, resulting in unusable layouts, I consider that for general type of users this can create big problems. But we need to understand where this is enabled.
For the Russian setting, it's not enabled by default,
so Russian users and developers don't notice it.
I'd be grateful if you could find these settings.
Re: Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
If I would be able to help, I gladly do it.
The setting is present not only on English-started iso. Booting the ROSA.FRESH.PLASMA6.13.1.x86_64.iso in Russian, it is enabled there too. But maybe because the main Russian keyboard layout (like the US too) has no 3rd or 4th levels, users do not need to use ALT R to reach general-use characters, that's why they do not notice or are not influenced that the setting is enabled or not.

Re: Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
After everything was working OK, disabling the typographic characters, I rechecked my /home/user/.config/kxkbrc file. There was a new line in it:
If I deleted the line, everything was wrong again.
But if I chose again the typographic characters, in the Options line will appear as a fourth option 'misc:typo'
So if the kxkbrc file has an Option line, which does not include 'misc:typo', the default setting will be overwritten. Logically
Where are the default settings are coming from?
I have reached the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf file, containing this:
So I suppose this is where the options might have come, but it does not contain nor the 'misc:typo', nor the 'lv3:ralt_switch' options, which appears to be set up by default too. And the option 'grp_led:scroll' from the .conf file does not appear in the new line, making me think, that it will not be used.
Is there any other place where keyboard-regarding infos might come from? The typo and ralt_switch stuff comes from elsewhere.
At this point as a workaround I would create automatically by default at the very first creation of a user a kxkbrc file with Options=... line, without the misc:typo in it.

Re: Rosa 13.1 plasma (iso too) version problems
I think I have found the bad boy.
It is on the iso too.
It is the /etc/xdg/kxkbrc file. Its content explains all the above questions:
