ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
Hi,
My first observations of the last Beta of October 24 :
SimpleWelcome version 2: Applications take up 2 tabs. For example, I want to group icons LibreOffice and I succeed without problems to those found on the first tab but I can not find any way to bring LibreOffice icons present on the 2nd tab to the group of the first tab. (hope to be clear)
Dolphin: It lacks the new (and Useful) Nepomuk shortcuts present in KDE 4.9 (today, yesterday, this week). Is this intentional ?

Thanks for your interest in our distribution.sylvainsjc писал(а):Hi,

Regarding SimpleWelcome: Yes, this is known issue, will be fixed sometime soon. SW2 is still in beta stage so not all bugs are fixed yet.

Some questions regarding Rosa Desktop 2012 Beta:
Is the coming Rosa Desktop 2012.1 going to be an LTS release?
Is it possible to upgrade my current OS (Rosa Marathon 2012 RP1) to the newest SimpleWelcome 2 and Timeline features?
I really appreciate the new feature of time, especially its integration to the social websites. Is it possible to integrate also a chat app for Facebook right in the timeline screen?

No. Marathon will remain the only LTS release for 5 years (2012-2017)Marjeo писал(а):Is the coming Rosa Desktop 2012.1 going to be an LTS release?
Unfortunately not, by various technical reasons.Marjeo писал(а):Is it possible to upgrade my current OS (Rosa Marathon 2012 RP1) to the newest SimpleWelcome 2 and Timeline features?

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
This time I have ROSA 2012 Desktop in virtual machine.
I mentioned that there is no action after pushing on panel icon about warning for available updates.
I subsequently push button Install updates and nothing. Again previous icon about waiting updates

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
No release - no updates... Use urpmi --auto-update from CLI.
Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
I do it this way
. But it is little confusing.

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
Today I tried install and launch Eclipse. But without success.
Is there any plans to update these packages?

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
I think 'no' - use downloaded bundle please. Java and java-related stuff need be fully rework an update - no maintainers. If anyone wants doing this - welcome.

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
I downloaded Eclipse Classic from their site, and extracted it to a folder in home. I also downloaded JRE from Oracle's website and extracted it to jre folder inside Eclipse folder and it works for me. Look up the Eclipse documentation online for the correct steps.

How it is with language packages for Firefox 16?
Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
Firefox language packages have been finally built, should be available on mirrors during the day.
Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
OK. I can confirm.d_uragan писал(а):Firefox language packages have been finally built, should be available on mirrors during the day.

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
I have read ROSA Planet #3 (Technical bulletin) and I found there this sentence about new X-server and video cards:
But I have older ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 card. Is there any appropriate driver in the case of these older cards for prepared ROSA Desktop 2012?The transition was painless: we have only one loss, it is free drivers for AMD/ATI videocards older than HD5xxx.
Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
Only free driver for ATI card older than HD5xxx
AMD drop all support this card and not release legacy fgrlx driver fo X-Server 13. You need or use free ati or change you 'older', as AMD think, card.

Re: ROSA Desktop 2012 Beta : some remarks
I tested some actual release of distros (Kubuntu, Fedora, openSuse), but there is for me impossible boot without nomodeset kernel option.
After booting the display resolution is strange (not full for my notebook monitor) and without possibility change it.
For example: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=845745
Rosa Desktop 2012 boots this time also with nomodeset option.
But I am wonder that there is no problem with display resolution at me after booting in prepared ROSA. I have full size resolution.
