Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012.1)?
Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012.1)?
Hello,
Since we are expecting the Desktop RC coming soon, I think we should start differentiating the topics somehow. So I suggest making two forums: "Marathon issues' and 'Desktop Issues'.
Any suggestions/additions may be?

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Ok, I will make some changes and we'll see if it's ok or not.
Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Almost forgotten...
a small detail: do we really need the word "issue" in title?
Because even if actually users often come to forum to ask for solutions for their problems, not always we talk about issues

Yes, this is quite changeable. I just need your suggestions/some discussion.rugyada писал(а):Almost forgotten...

Now please look at the main page, I created some forums. In my opinion these small subforums (like 'Marathon' and 'Desktop' under Hardware section) do not look very neat, but there is no way to make subcategory inside a category on phpbb, I couldn't find it.
Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Please can you explain better what you want to obtain? (hierarchy)ДроноваЮ писал(а):there is no way to make subcategory inside a category on phpbb
Postedit:
in phpBB each forum may have a parent forum, in a hierarchy order.
Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
I would want to have this hierarchy:
ENGLISH-SPEAKING FORUMS <--- category
Installation <--- subcategory
Marathon <--- primary forum
Desktop <--- primary forum
Hardware <--- subcategory
Marathon <--- primary forum
Desktop <--- primary forum
Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Ok, I come back in a while.
Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
The first picture seems to reflect my thoughts
I've googled for 'subcategories on phpbb3' but still nothing 's clear. They mention a mod somewhere, still cannot find it.

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
No subcategory, only forum & parent forum.
This is the hierarchy I set:
ENGLISH-SPEAKING FORUMS <--- category
Installation <--- forum (parent: ENGLISH-SPEAKING FORUMS)
Marathon <--- forum (parent: Installation)
Desktop <--- forum (parent: Installation)
Hardware <--- forum (parent: ENGLISH-SPEAKING FORUMS)
Marathon <--- forum (parent: Hardware)
Desktop <--- forum (parent: Hardware)
Is it different from yours?

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
I'm sorry, I was confused. Since there is no way to post into big primary forum ans users will have to go directly into either the Marathon or Desktop, it's ok with me. So I proceed with the row scheme and later we can discuss the naming. For the Francophone people, too

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Yes it seems ok, from main index page http://forum.rosalab.ru/en/index.php users can jump, if they want, directly in eg.
-English-speaking forums
..INSTALLATION
....Marathon
....Desktop
and so on.

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
I am confused as to the difference between Marathon and Desktop? I am using 2012 Marathon LTS EE (non-free) x86_64. I assumed Desktop to mean any comments/questions/problems to do with the desktop environment, such as KDE (or Gnome, or LXDE, etc). I just now checked the Rosa wiki download mirror site and see iso for Desktop. I appreciate the clarification! I'm sure it is explained somewhere, but I cannot find it.

What we're talking about here is for having forum(s) related to ROSA Marathon 2012 and forum(s) related to ROSA Desktop 2012 (often called 2012.1)

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Ah, there it is. Thanks rugyada! So Desktop would have a quicker 'rollover' rate, I assume, which for me is what I do not want as I use dial-up. It is easier for me to stay with Long Term Support Marathon version, no iso to download every few months, and I learned how to cache/save the urpmi rpms and transfer them to a usb drive, in case I have to reinstall.
And on that point, I have both the free and the EE version discs, as my husband downloaded both for me as we were a bit confused what the difference was. I did find the explanation in Rosa's wiki about this and I installed the non-free version (I think?) mainly for use of non-free video software. Since I am dense in the brain, I must ask, how does one know if one installed the free version or the EE version? I assume this is shown in the boot menu.lst entry as 'free' or EE'? Again, much obliged for taking time to answer my questions.
Regards, Lisa Marie

I don't remember but I guess the EE boot doesn't differ from FREE (not 100% sure).
See if this wiki page may help you
http://wiki.rosalab.ru/en/index.php/Pac ... ition_only
i.e. by searching some of the packages listed
Or wait for a more correct reply from a developer

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Again, thank you! It isn't important, and if I had paid attention I wouldn't be asking. I'll have to put the 'free' version disc aside so as not to get them mixed up if I have to reinstall. (I've done this, errrrr!) I would also guess that the enabled repo list with EE is different than free version.
Okay, did the first two:

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
True. I asked developers to fix this, they said 'yes ok', but if we want this to be done for sure, kindly somebody file a new bug on bugzilla, under the 'Future request' section.rugyada писал(а):the EE boot doesn't differ from FREE (not 100% sure).

Re: Do we need different sections for Marathon &Desktop(2012
Back to ontopic, is it possible to see Active topics in English-speaking forums forum?
If I'm not wrong they were there, before the re-organization
Thank you.
