Did a 'fresh' install of 2012.1 desktop.fresh.
During Install ploc-ploc again.
After first boot it disappeared. Problem solved?
No after reboot again ploc-ploc repeatingly.
My room mates are complaining about the constant morse sounds it makes.

Nothing to do with Pulse.
Pulse has problems running a ...

Oops, after cold restart pc showed black screen.
Tried safe mode XFdrake for yes and no nvidia prop. driver. No luck.
Xorg.Vesa is again last resort.
No nvidia-settings on desktop.

Same driver isue GeForce 6100 to GeForce 360
Via KDE Config / Hardware 'prop.drive available' + ok
Instead of colored stripes the screen showed big balck and white lanes.
PC freeze
Reboot in safe mode.
XFdrake
Picked the same driver. Prop. driver NO. Choose my display.
exit
X started with nvidia a ...

Wiki brought me also this sollution plus via KDE Config an easy (GUI) way to make a permanent entry for safe mode in grub.

I have to start a live ISO in order to get menu.lst information.
I hope there is another way such as with a boot entry.

I come from LILO experience. No knowledge yet for editing Grub.

Workaround seems to be somewhat different.
Its not cracky sound.
It is the 'ploc' sound that I normally hear once during boot when my sound card is enabled.
But now the sound gets back after every second. Its horrible to hear and cause its a desktop I can't set it off.

I will try the Skype solution ...

How do I boot in safe mode?

I f@cked up my install by installing from the repos the nvidia prop. dkms driver 3.10 for my graphic card.
Instantly the screen blurred, so I had to do a cold restart.
Now it halts during boot without presenting a login prompt.

OK, right mouse click /Properties/Share works for setting share.
'WORKGROUP' rename either by CLI or via edit of etc/samba/smb.conf.
I didn't test CLI but edit it will do fine for a somewhat experienced user.

For newbies I prefer a GUI tool available in Config Center.
(like in the old days )

After install smb is already installed and the workgroup WORKGROUP is created. Great.
I can see it from pc's in my LAN.
I don't see however an option for sharing a smb share.
In the old days :wink: there was an option in the Mandriva/ROSA Config Center for sharing smb and nfs shares.
